Great Aunt Louise died this afternoon. Great Aunt Helen, Dad, Mom, Aunt Louise, and the children of two cousins of theirs that we didn't know all met at the hospital. Aunt Helen was the only one with her when she passed... they took her off life support and she died shortly thereafter.

Apparently she had a head injury from the fall. This all happened sometime the week before Mothers' Day, but Aunt Helen didn't want to call any of their nieces and nephews so she didn't "Ruin their Mothers' Day", as she put it. What a shame that that poor woman was alone for a full week by herself with her sister dying in the hospital.

The two of them never married, had great jobs, travelled the world together, and were great friends for their entire lives. I would imagine that Aunt Helen won't be around too much longer - it's almost like when a spouse dies, when that's the person you've spent your life with. I hope that she does live a lot longer. I have been feeling guilty a lot of the day because I never got around to sending them a Christmas card with pictures of Chelsea, Dory and Leko. I had intended to send them an Easter card with news of Abbie and pictures, I even have the beginning of that letter on my flash drive on my keychain. Once again, I never got around to sending it.

I will get a Mass card for her on Monday and send that to Aunt Helen. Mom said they talked about animals today, and Aunt Helen was interested in Alfred, so I will have to be sure to send her pictures of him. If all goes well, I would like to stop in for a brief visit this summer with Abbie on our way to Marc's parents house. It may be my last time seeing Aunt Helen.

May God rest her soul.
