First water aerobics class tonight in over a month... ahhhh.
We're back from the hellmouth, no extra dogs in tow like we had thought might happen. My MIL is still alive, so I controlled myself.
The trip home was also an experience. We stopped at the outlet mall in Westbrook, CT to do a little shopping and miss NYC traffic. They told us Abbie wasn't welcome on the property. We of course left, but I was bummed as I was looking forward to cheap Old Navy clothes, seeing as how our new principal has banned capris.
Next wes Clinton (which was just 2 exits away from Madison, where Teddy the 9mo. old was) and Marc was walking around with Abbie outside while I was shopping at Coach. When I came out, I spotted him talking to another couple with a Wheaten, Molly. Molly was 4 years old, fairly shy, and her owner said she had been given to them by his father who lived in Chicago. He mentioned she had had two litters already. As we were talking, two women came up and said “Wow a Wheaten party! You don’t see that too often!” The bred Wheatens (Bryr Rose Kennels I believe? She said she also knew Gwen) and the other was a friend of hers. She pulled out some pictures of her beautiful Wheatens.
The six of us talked about Wheatens and Wheaten rescue (while Abbie rolled over for a belly rub). Molly’s owners didn’t seem to know much about the breed at all, were surprised to hear they were very “people” dogs (the must not have had her very long), didn’t seem to realize they needed a lot of grooming… Then they mentioned to Jeanne that they were interested in breeding, mentioned that they heard there was “some sort of disease they were prone to”, and asked her what her stud fees were. I almost had to pick my chin up off the ground. Jeanne handled it very well, and kept me from saying too much, and basically let this couple know she wasn’t just breeding her stud with any Wheaten – and encouraged them to research PLE/PLN first. She asked about Molly’s bloodlines, and they said “oh we’d have to get her paperwork from Dad in Chicago”… I was just amazed.
We left with me telling them to check out the SCWTCA site for information on Wheatens and Jeanne wishing them luck with their new baby (the wife was due any day… yes lets breed the dog!)… Sigh.
Oh, I did buy two lovely coach bags, including a gorgeous lime green patent one which is not leaving my arm until September, at least.
Abbie is adorable. We were having trouble getting her to come in from the backyard, she would sit and flirt with the labs next door for hours if we let her. She finally will come running if you yell, "Abbie, want a cookie??" A girl after my own heart :)
