That is not a real motorcycle. It is made out of wire. Isn't it amazing? You can see more shots here:
JDWireArtThe reason I mention it is because I was fortunate enough to spend a week with the artist. His name is Jonathan Daniel, and he's originally from Zimbabwe. He spent a week at the school where I teach talking to the kids and showing them how to make things out of wire and beads. The kids missed my classes to go to his, which meant that I had to go with them to his class. Wow, what an experience! Not only is he a talented artist, he is a fascinating person as well.
He started the week talking to the whole school about his life in Africa as a young boy. He lived in extreme poverty and told them he went days at a time without food and that clothing was considered a "luxury". He would scavenge through trash for food and find things to make toys out of. For our kids, who want for nothing, I thought it was an especially excellent story to hear. I missed his talk later in the same day telling how children in Zimbabwe were named - after where they were born, and some stories that were too mature for the younger kids. I wish I had heard it, but the kids filled me in. They were obviously moved.
He also started a non-profit group to aide widows and children in his home country,
Dare to Share. I felt very lucky to have spent so many days with this amazing person!
