My mom came in third in her age group in The Race for the Cure on Saturday. She's 73, and pretty damn amazing. Her time was 40:57, 3 1/3 minutes better than her last year's time. Way to go mom. :)
It was also a pivotal day for me. My running has been scattered, if at all, lately. I'll do a water aerobics class or a brisk walk, but rarely is a run thrown in. Since I didn't sign up to run competively this year, I couldn't start in that group and had to try to catch up to Mom the entire time. It took me almost 4 minutes to cross the starting line, so I took off at a jog to try and make up some of that time. At mile 1 the race clock said 14:37, and my watch was at 10:58, so I figured if I kept running, I would get her since she does around a 14-14:30 mile.
Heh, well I was wrong. This cough that's been lingering for a week now made my lungs burn, and at the half way mark (a little over a mile and a half) I couldn't run any more. But boy my legs wanted to. I ended up walking/jogging the rest of the way, and coming in at 43:xx on the race clock, just about 2 minutes behind her. But I felt great (other than my lungs). It made me want to run again, and get back to my 26 minute race time. My goal is to do that by the Womens' Distance Festival in October. I was a little too sore and coughy today to go out, but tomorrow after the foofas have their breakfast, I am off to the greenway for at least 2 miles.
My hair, btw, is kick-ass. I had 9 inches whacked off and it feels great. This girl was fantastic, and she did my eyebrows. I feel like a new woman. The receptionist told me I looked "spunky". Amazing how a haircut can give you a new attitude :)
