Well, it's July. And you know what that means in this household: A trip to Boston to visit my lovely in-laws.

Amazingly, although I did have my laptop along in case I needed stress relief, it was not that bad this time. That's not to say that I want to rugh right back up there anytime in the next 10 years unless I have to, but I lived without wanting to kill my MIL this time.

Probably because the first three days they were in P-town and we were in Foxboro. The weather was too crappy for the 2hr drive to the cape, so we hung around the house, shopped (gasp! certainly not me!), and spent time with Pooh's sister and her family, which was nice. Seems her husband feels about the same way about my inlaws as I do, so we were sure to sit close to each other at mealtime once they did return home (see last year's post around this time for description of my MIL's eating habits, which haven't improved one bit).

Pooh's sister's kids are a gorgeous mix of Korean and Irish. All three of them are just beautiful, and such great kids. We watched them one day at the pool while their parents worked on painting the house, had a great time. Not being one to sit around, the next day I volunteered Pooh and me to help with the painting and let my MIL watch the kids. Of course, her "watching" them meant putting them in front of the TV while she read, or sitting by the pool reading and occasionally looking up to make sure they weren't drowning. Thank go she's far enough away that she won't have to watch our kids (if we ever have them!)

Now we're back home and my godson is staying with us for a week. Can you believe he is 8 almost 9 already? This is the first time he's spent time away from his mom and dad when they haven't been within an hour drive, so he was a little nervous the first night (Sunday) and woke up at 6:25 yesterday morning. Now that it's day 2 he's getting a bit more comfortable and didn't get up until 8. We have plans for the science museum today, zoo tomorrow. I have created a World of Warcraft addict in him - that's all that he wants to do. Today's maintenance is forcing him to play RCT 3, which he was dreading, but now he seems to be enjoying himself.

I finally feel like an adult. After redoing every other room in the house with grown-up furniture, we finally bought "real" bedroom furniture for our room. No more mismatched pieces from our old apartments. I also painted it a fabulous shade of none other than green, finally unpacked my matching comforter, sheets, pillows and curtains (I NEVER have curtains, always just wood blinds!) and we're putting crown molding up once my nephew goes home. The ultimate goal is to have the entire house (with the exception of the basement) presentable before my aunt and uncle arrive in September, which leaves only two rooms - the library and the downstairs guest bedroom. But those are almost too scary to think about. We have too much junk. The life of a shop-a-holic.
