So I'm in the office this morning working on attendance when another teacher comes looking for me. She tells me that someone is really trying to reach me, my cell phone had rung at least 4 times in a row.

Of course while walking back to the other building all sorts of possibilities are running through my head. Leko has fallen down the stairs and Pooh is rushing him to the emergency vet, or there's been an accident, or any number of other things.

I get to my phone and it's not Pooh that's been calling, it was my mom & dad. I call them back. No answer. I call their cell phone - straight to voicemail. I call the house a few more times, no answer. Of course since they're in their mid 70's, I start to worry. I call the office and tell them that I need to leave to check on my parents, and as I'm explaining my voice starts cracking. I was more upset than I realized.

I get in the car and call my brother's house. No answer. Call my SIL's cell. She hasn't heard anything but is worried too and calls my brother at the office for me. Driving during times of uncertainty has to be the most unsafe thing ever. I can't even remember driving down any of the roads to their house. When I get there, the car is gone, the door is locked, and there are no signs of a hurried departure. I check the calendar and see that mom has an eye doctor appointment this morning - but she called last at 8:18 and the appointment was at 8:30 - and my parents are the type that leave 30 mins early for things like that, even if the office is only 5 mins away.

By this time my brother is en route to the eye doctor, which is right across the street from Rex Hospital. I pull into the lot and see their car. I park and head in. Mom is sitting there with her eyes closed, and dad is reading a magazine. I debate sneaking back out since they're obviously fine, but I was still curious as to why she called so many times.

Mom was shocked to see me and wondered what I was doing there. I said I was worried because she had called me 4 times in a row this morning and didn't leave a message. She wasn't even aware she had done it... she couldn't find HER cellphone and thought she was calling it instead of mine.

Parents!
